Objective: to make money. As? By cutting the revaluation of medium-high social security checks. To finance the new Quota 100, the government is ready to review the mechanism for adjusting pensions to inflation. Today the law provides for three different percentages, depending on the amount of the social security check:
- 100% for checks up to 4 times the minimum treatment;
- 90% for those between 4 and 5 times the minimum;
- 75% for higher amounts;
How the revaluation could change in 2027
According to press rumours, however, the majority seems intent on changing the cards on the table by introducing six revaluation bands.
- 100% of inflation for treatments up to four times the INPS minimum;
- 90% up to five times the minimum;
- 60% checks greater than five and up to six times the minimum;
- 50% between six and eight times the minimum;
- 40% between eight and ten times the minimum;
- 35% over ten times the minimum.
The operation would allow you to save a considerable nest egg, even if with inflation hovering around 3% the final bill still promises to be high.
Uil estimates
But how much would pensioners lose compared to the system in force today? Uil tried to do the math. According to the union’s estimates, assuming a revaluation of 3% (yet to be confirmed), the lack of increase is starting to be felt for holders of pensions with an amount of 2,500 euros gross, who with the new rates would receive an increase of 67.5 euros gross per month, while with the mechanism in force today they would be entitled to just under 75 euros. The cut in this case would be 7.34 euros.

The loss grows as pensions rise, up to 95.51 euros per month for treatments of 6,200 euros per month. For pensions of 1,500 and 2,000 euros gross per month, however, there would be no difference: in both systems, explains Uil, the entire inflation would be recognised. For the moment these are only hypotheses. Nothing has yet been decided, much less approved.
Barbagallo: “Pensioners are not ATMs”
Sure, the idea is there. Also because the government wants to find the resources to finance the so-called “exit flexibility”, loudly requested by the League. According to Carmelo Barbagallo, general secretary of Uil Pensioners, a new cut in the revaluation would be “absurd”. “We cannot continue to make money on pensioners”, explains the trade unionist. “They are people, not ATMs. If the cut is confirmed – concludes Barbagallo -, we will not stand still. I remember that there are 16 million pensioners and they want to continue to do good for the country and their families”.
