A microphone captures the phrase for Macron

Yesterday the important summit was held in the White House on the Ukrainian crisis. Donald Trump, President of the United States, hosted Volodymyr Zelensky and a large European leader delegation: Emmanuel Macron, French president, Giorgia Meloni, president of the Italian Council, Friedrich Merz, German Chancellor, Keir Starmer, British Prime Minister, Alexander Stubub, Finnish president, Ursula von Der Leyen, president of the European Commission, and Mark. Rutte, NATO Secretary General. Zelensky took place right in front of Trump, reporting the importance of the Ukrainian question in the debate. Macron, sitting next to Trump, had the opportunity to confront himself directly on the French positions regarding the conflict.

Trump’s Fuori and the Putin question

Just before the start of the enlarged meeting, an open microphone caught Trump’s words whispered to Macron on Vladimir Putin: “I think he wants to make an agreement with me, do you realize? As crazy how crazy, is crazy”. Trump added: “I think he wants an agreement.” The American president then said he spoke with Putin in Alaska, where the Russian leader would have accepted the idea of providing Ukraine security guarantees, but without the entry of Kiev into NATO.

Different positions on peace: respite, security and the role of Europe

During the summit, Trump expressed his vision for the resolution of the conflict: “The fire is not necessary. I like the idea of a respite, but an agreement can be achieved while fighting”. His position was not shared by several European leaders. Friedrich Merz said: “I cannot imagine a next meeting without a ceasefire”, while Macron considered the fire to cease a necessity. Giorgia Meloni underlined the Italian will to “support a peace that does not question Kiev’s sovereignty”, speaking of a “new phase after three years of conflict”.

The guarantees and the 100 billion proposal for Kiev

According to what was discussed, Ukraine could buy 100 billion dollars of American weapons, financed by Europe, as part of an agreement to receive security guarantees from the United States after a possible peace agreement. The plan also provides for the production of drones in collaboration between Ukrainian and American companies. Trump said that Europe will be “at the forefront, but we will help them”, suggesting a division of tasks between the USA and the EU for the future safety of Ukraine.

Macron insists on the quadrilateral format

Macron has relaunched the need for a quadrilateral that involves Trump, Putin, Zelensky and Europe, considering only a three -way meeting insufficient. In this phase no European leader mentioned Ukrainian territorial concessions, despite the Russian requests: the theme remained outside the table by political choice. Alexander Stubb said: “Ukraine’s security is Europe’s security”. Ursula von der Leyen and Mark Rutte showed attention to the coordination with the USA and born to provide concrete guarantees.

At the end of the summit, Trump announced that the USA are working to organize a bilateral Putin -zeky “before” of the trilateral with the USA, Russia and the United States. The Kremlin confirmed.
