Amazon ready for an epochal turning point with its drone delivery service renamed Prime Air. In this way customers will be able to receive their parcels thanks to special devices controlled remotely by an operator. At the moment this is a method still in the testing phase, but the US giant is gradually expanding its range of action. After introducing drone delivery in College Station, Texas, it’s the turn of Tolleson, Arizona (from November 5th). Those who live near one of Amazon’s warehouses will therefore have the possibility of receiving their package on the same day as the order, therefore very quickly.
The big news, in this case, consists in the possibility of piloting drones without maintaining visual contact. Amazon has in fact received the green light from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to drive in Bvlos mode (Beyond Visual Line of Sight), i.e. beyond the visual line. In this way the delivery radius can be expanded. The drone used will have a small compartment available in which it will be possible to insert a whole series of goods suitable for delivery. This important innovation will be tested in Tolleson (Ariz.), where the Amazon factory will host employees, but will be more concentrated in delivery operations.
The drone model that will be used is theMK30significantly faster than its predecessor, and much quieter. Apparently these devices will be able to carry a weight of about two kilograms. Among the goods suitable for delivery we find as many as 50 thousand objects that are defined as essential to daily life, such as household or personal care products, but also stationery material. We are therefore talking about objects of limited size. No television or computer, for example.
And in Italy? There is great anticipation for the arrival of this service in our country too. According to the latest information, Amazon Prime Air should “land” in Italy starting from the end of this year.
In October 2023, therefore a year ago, the US giant announced that it intended to experiment with drone delivery in the Bel Paese by 2024, but nothing has been said since then. We’ll see if Prime Air’s drones will be able to fly our skies too before 2025.
