A teacher died and two other students were seriously injured on the morning of Tuesday 29 September in a school in Staškov, northern Slovakia. According to initial information released by the Slovak media, the attacker was a school student, an eighth grader, who used a sharp object.
A 61-year-old teacher died at the scene due to her injuries. Rescuers also transported a minor in critical condition to Martin hospital by helicopter. A 44-year-old woman, who had a stab wound to the chest, was transferred by helicopter to Žilina hospital.
The police and numerous rescue teams intervened on site. The Slovak authorities have confirmed that the perpetrator of the attack is a student of the institute. Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok, Education Minister Tomáš Drucker and Health Minister Kamil Šaško are also headed to Staškov. The dynamics of the attack and the reasons that pushed the boy to act remain to be clarified.
