It seems like decades have passed since he promoted prepaid cards for migrants arriving in his city. Yes, because the New York Mayor Eric Adamsamong the points of reference of the democratic world, seems to have changed its mind regarding reception. Overwhelmed by the invasion of asylum seekers, the mayor of the Big Apple had to deal with an unprecedented emergency. The collapsing city, the economic problems, the increase in crime: Adams himself admitted that he was unable to imagine a solution for his city. But the victory of Donald Trump the presidential elections could change the course of history.
Do you commit a crime? You get kicked out before serving your sentence. A real one Trumpian turn for the mayor of New York, who said he was ready to chase away illegal immigrants accused of crimes as well as to collaborate with the new White House administration. “My position is that the people who commit crimes in our city have abdicated their right to be in New York and I am open to finding the best way to address the issue” his words that leave little room for interpretation, with good peace of that do-gooder left that has done so much damage.
One of the recent cases that has caused the most discussion is that of dBernardo Castro Mataa nineteen-year-old Venezuelan who entered the United States illegally and shot two New York police officers. “I don’t want that guy in my city: plain and simple,” Adams underlined, more determined than ever to solve the problem. And again: “Those who are here to commit crimes, robberies, shoot copsraping innocent people, have damaged our country.” But that’s not all. Addressing the world of the left, Adams focused on one of the greatest evils of American society, namely the cancel culture. Many progressives have been afraid of expelling criminal immigrants, but he fears nothing or anyone: “In the era of cancel culture, if you don’t like this, just cancel me.”
Adams’ hard line coincides with Trump’s imminent return to the White House and therefore with the return to strict immigration rules. Tom Homanindicated by the tycoon for the dossier, had highlighted regarding New York that he was ready to expel criminal illegal immigrants with or without the help of the local administration: “If we cannot obtain assistance from New York City, we may have to double the number of agents we send. Because we will do the work with them or without them.” Adams offered an olive branch, noting that the presidential outcome showed that Americans want change on immigration and border management.
“I want to talk to him and find out what his plans are, where there are commonalities and where we can work together,” Adams highlighted about his meeting with Homan. The first citizen of the Big Apple played like a good former police captain “to the good cop and the bad cop” on immigration matters. He has spent billions on reception but has also drawn the line at expelling law-abiding illegal immigrants: “Those people shouldn’t be rounded up in the middle of the night. These are people who love our country and are participating in our country.” But many also remember the relaxed laws, egregious errors contested by citizens. Now the Trumpian turn could give more security to one of the most iconic cities in the world. And who knows, maybe Adams could leave the Dems to embrace the Republican cause…
