Camera, messages and touch screen: Apple releases iOS 18.0.1, all the new features


Announced in recent days, now Apple released the first update (270 MB) for all users who have already downloaded the new operating system iOS 18, the version 18.0.1 with which we become aware of the problems often reported in recent weeks and which mainly concern touch screen, camera, messages but also general performance including security.

What the update fixes

Going to Settings, General and Software Update, the developers explain in detail why it is necessary to reserve a few minutes for the transition to iOS 18.0.1. “This update includes important bug fixes and security improvements for iPhone“. In detail these are:

  • the touch screen that temporarily stopped responding on the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro;
  • the camera could freeze when recording 4K ultra wide angle videos”and with the HDR option disabled on iPhone 16 Pro models“;
  • the Messages app closed improperly if a message was responded to with a shared Apple Watch face;
  • performance was lower and poorer due to a memory allocation issue on some iPhone models

Further fixes

iOS 18.0.1 corrects, however, above all a bug that affected audio messages: Apple developers saw that on the latest products just released on the market (the entire iPhone 16 range) since the Messages app could record “a few seconds of audio before the green microphone indicator activated in the Dynamic Island and Control Center”, let the experts know Hdblog. It didn’t end there because it seems that on iPhone and iPad there was also a problem relating to passwords being saved: Cupertino informed users that a bug would be able to make VoiceOver read aloud what the keywords were saved, thus exposing sensitive data to enormous risks.

“Impact: A user’s saved passwords may be read aloud by VoiceOver. Description: A logic problem was solved through improved validation”, the developers said. As always happens in these cases, at the same time as the release of iOS 18.0.

1 updates were also released for Apple Watches (watchOS 11.0.1) and Mac PCs (macOS Sequoia 15.0.1). Unlike what happened with iPhones, in these cases it concerns the resolution of minor problems.
