The idea that an account may have been hacked crosses the mind of anyone who ventures into the vast world of the web and beyond: emails, social media profiles, telephone numbers, personal data and documents can end up in the hands of cybercriminalsand the search for information on the subject is common to all internet users

Recently, alongside the already well-known “Have I Been Pwned”, a portal created entirely by the independent Australian researcher Troy Hunt, the site Databreach.comcreated on this occasion by Atlas Privacy, a company that deals with cybersecurity. The company, which specifically specializes in offering services for removing sensitive data and information from the internet and search engines, often also offers collaboration to the police and its contribution is requested by famous people who have suffered intrusions or hacking, which is happening more and more frequently

While the first portal carries out its searches based on the email address for which you want to know the existence of any violations, Databreach offers broader possibilities. While waiting for a further improvement already announced by the company that created it, Databreach already allows you to carry out the search not only starting from the e-mail, but also from the telephone number and the Social Security Number (SSN), a document similar to the our tax code. The goal is to further expand the field of investigationrecently also extended to IP, physical addresses, usernames or Zip Codes.

The user is protected from the moment he triggers his search, given that anonymity is guaranteed: obviously, if a violation has occurred, it is only possible to understand where it occurred and which category it concerns, but not specifically the given the stolen information. For example, by entering the name of a social profile, the portal reveals the category of the violator and can report, for example, “password” and “e-mail”, without however reporting what the protection code or e-mail address is. , data on which absolute confidentiality is maintained. Once registered, the portal allows you to obtain further information, such as the date and time the theft occurred or details on the identity of the perpetrator of the breach. Since Atlas has been in the industry for years, it has boundless scope databases to draw from.

The service limits itself to reporting the infringement but does not work to remove the problem: thanks to the information,

however, the user can intervene on the compromised data, making any changes. Changing your password in the event of an attack is advisable, even more so if you use the same one to protect multiple services.
