Eni revises tariffs downwards. Despite the increase in excise duty of six cents per liter (due to the stop of the mobile excise duty mechanism), the six-legged dog has brought the recommended price of diesel back to 2.19 euros per litre.
On October 6, after the stop to mobile excise duties, the price cap was raised to 2.25 euros, but Eni subsequently reduced the recommended price to 2.21, while maintaining the ceiling at 2.25. Today the recommended price drops again to 2.19, although the price cap remains at 2.25.
“Eni applies a responsible commercial policy – the company says -, compatible with the trend of international prices, such as to keep diesel and petrol prices at a sustainable level, with the price cap in force which will have the function of containing any peak levels”.
The average price of self-service fuel along the road network today stands at 2.035 euros per liter for petrol and 2.258 for diesel, down by three cents compared to yesterday. On the motorway network the average self-service price is 2.046 euros for green and €2.281/l for diesel.
The scenarios: bonuses, mobile excise duties or a spare treasure
Meanwhile, the government is studying an anti-price rise solution. The scenarios are a new intervention on excise duties, or a bonus intended for the most affected categories: farmers, fishermen and hauliers. This last solution is the most appreciated by the League. Finally there is a third hypothesis: do nothing and keep the hay in the farmhouse waiting for worse times.
Meloni said that the government can put 160 million on the table. “We are wondering whether it is more effective to spend it at this time, when there are containment measures in any case, or to keep it as a supply when those measures end. It also depends on the holding of the cap. Let’s see what happens in the next few hours”. Eni’s move could lead to the latter possibility: keeping the “treasure” aside as a reserve for the dark periods. Meanwhile, Brent prices remain above 100 dollars a barrel: the light at the end of the tunnel is still faint.
