Eni strengthens its presence in the global liquefied natural gas market. The group has signed three long-term agreements for the purchase of LNG in Indonesia, linked to the South Hub and North Hub projects, both operated by the company in the Kutei basin, off the coast of East Kalimantan.
The contracts concern a total volume of approximately 2 million tonnes per year. The gas will be liquefied through Bontang Lng’s existing plants, also thanks to the reactivation of a train that has been stopped for years. It is one of the central elements of Eni’s strategy in the area: using existing infrastructure to accelerate the placing of gas on the market and reduce development times and costs.

The South Hub and North Hub projects obtained the final investment decision in March 2026. According to Eni, they will enter production in 2028 and are expected to reach a plateau of 2 billion cubic feet per day of gas and 90 thousand barrels per day of condensates in 2029. The gas will be destined for both the Indonesian domestic market and for export in the form of LNG.
The operation is part of the group’s objective of reaching over 20 million tonnes of contracted LNG per year by 2030. Eni has been present in Indonesia since 2001. In the Kutei basin, where the group’s activities are concentrated, net production is around 90 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day, mainly coming from the Jangkrik and Merakes offshore fields.
