Goodbye to Google.it, close the national versions of the search engine: here's what changes

A piece of computerism history that could abandon us. Google.it It may soon disappear definitively. Google has in fact decided to close the first level local domains. So it speaks of national domains. In Italy it will no longer be possible to type the domain www.google.it on your browser, but it will be necessary to resort to generic www.google.com.

Google has decided to say goodbye to first level domains with country code (CCTLD), such as google.it, google.fr or google.com.br. Change is part of a wider transition that aims to simplify and standardize the research experience for all users globally. The nut is taken. The Mountain View company has decided to take the big step by eliminating any trace of local domains. “Over the years, our ability to offer a local experience has improved”, Google writes in an official note. “In 2017, we started offering the same experience with local results to all those who used research, regardless of the fact that Google.com wrote or the domain of their country”, We read.

From what is understood, in fact, the choice to eliminate local domains is not dictated by marketing but by pragmatism. The choice will however go to put the first place users. In other words, Google.com may show you relevant results for Italy exactly as Google.it would do. The implementation of this modification will gradually take place in the coming months. Even from a legal and regulatory point of view, there are no significant impacts.

Google has clarified that the redirection towards a single domain will not change the way the company respects the regulatory rights inconveniences, however, there is no shortage. From Google, some warnings that report to users have arrived the possibility of having to reinsert some of their research preferences to store them again.
