A new identity, even visual, for Grola, one of the wines that most represents the spirit of Allegrini, one of the great cellars of Valpolicella, who just over a year ago refreshed his image and his vision after Marilisa, “Lady Amarone”, the last exponent of the generation of the fathers with the Walter and Franco brothers, founded one of his company leaving the brand in the hands of his grandchildren Silvia (daughter of Walter). Francesco, Giovanni and Matteo (sons of Franco).
Grola, therefore, no longer the gross. The fall of an article that actually hides much more: for example the return within the Valpolicella Valpolicella Superior Doc denomination, which also takes place thanks to a renewed “recipe”, the classic Blend of Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella, to crystallize in a new classic dimension and yet always rebellious a wine that over the years has experienced numerous formulas to always remain contemporary always contemporary. “Grola – says Francesco Allegrini, CEO of Allegrini Wines – is not just a wine, it is an idea of Valpolicella. A conscious return to the origins and a declaration of identity. This project is a tribute to my father Franco, who had started to imagine this change. Today Grola is the symbol of our inheritance and our desire to leave the mark”.
The change is not only in wine, but in everything that surrounds it. The new bottle is lighter (420 grams), to reduce the environmental impact. The 100 percent cotton label, the FSC certified packaging, the low -impact dermis capsule and the certified cap to reduce the TCA (the Tricloroanisolo, the substance that gives the wine the so -called hint of cap), complete a modern and responsible restyling. Also new is the label, which plays on the image of the hill and on that of the crow intended as a sign of rebellion. The crow, which according to tradition transformed the grapes of the hill into corvina, is in fact the protagonist of the new packaging and the communication campaign. Proud, free, indomitable: just like Grola, who returns to impose himself with an unmistakable character. His iconic presence in the communication materials marks the new course of Allegrini’s rebellious wine.
Grola 2022 is made up of 70 percent of Corvina Veronese, a 25 from Corvinone and from the 5th of Rondinella. Vinification takes place in controlled temperature steel tanks for fifteen days. The refinement takes place for sixteen months for half in a second passage barrique and the rest in large barrels. The alcoholic degree is 13.5 degrees, the color is intense ruby red, on the nose it performs first notes of small red fruit, which then gives way to the most advanced notes of vanilla, coffee, tobacco, cocoa. In the mouth silky but well present tannins, balance, elegance and persistence.
Grola was baptized during the very recent Vinitaly in Verona, during a dinner at the Maffei restaurant in Piazza delle Erbe, among the most beautiful in the world, with a tasting route that combined the new wine at the creations of Mattia Bianchi, executive chef of the Amistà restaurant in Corrubbio di Negarine (a Michelin star), to the pulled pasta by Ada Riolfi of the Enoteca della Valpolicella. All in a context made unique by the Roman excavations of the ancient Capitol on which the Veronese palace stands.
After the Veronese event, Grola will begin a Giro d’Italia, presenting himself in Rome at the Florentine ride, at the Lazzati Trattoria in Milan, at the Churrasco in Bari, at the Locanda di Castelvecchio in Verona, at the simple bistrot in Imola recently inaugurated by Max Mascia, the chef of San Domenico, in Naples at the Colauri Tavernetta. The tour will continue after summer fear by touching Cervinia. Brunico, Loreto, Trapani, Florence, Cervia and Negrar, again in Valpolicella.
