A sudden fire inside an overhead bin sparked panic on board a China Eastern Airlines flight from Lanzhou to Guiyang, China. Shortly after landing at Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport, while the plane was still reaching the terminal, flames suddenly broke out from one of the overhead bins in the cabin.
The video shot by a passenger shows the crew opening the compartment, extracting the luggage and intervening in the fire. Around, some travelers get up and try to walk away. In the video a voice is heard inviting everyone to remain calm: “Don’t worry, the firefighters are coming”.
The accident occurred around 11am on July 24th. “I thought the outside of the plane was on fire, then I looked up and saw flames coming out of the overhead bin,” one of the passengers told Jiemu News. The airport fire service, contacted by the Chinese newspaper, reports that the cause of the fire was a power bank carried by a traveller. When firefighters reached the plane, the flames had already been put out by the crew. There are no injuries.
