he rants about Musk, is silent about Soros

After the controversial statements of Elon Musk against the judges of the Court of Rome, the Italian left suddenly rediscover their nationalist streak and their innate patriotic feeling. Incredible, but true. A very short tweet from the much-hated Elon, just five words, “These judges need to go”, was enough to suddenly reawaken the dormant sovereignist instincts of the representatives of the opposition front, now more than ever determined to raise the barricades to defend the beloved homeland from the danger of foreign interference.

Who would have thought? Patriots, them? Curious, isn’t it? Who knows why now? If you think about it badly, one could even hypothesize that they have not digested the US electoral debacle well. Certainly, they simply cannot accept the idea that a democratically elected government can take a certain line on immigration, whether right or wrong, and legitimately carry it forward despite repeated interference from the judiciary. As if in a democracy worthy of the name the task of dictating the political agenda belonged to the Judiciary.

Of course, it shouldn’t even be up to Elon Musk to judge the functioning of the judicial apparatus of a sovereign state or to establish whether a judge should be removed from office or not. There is no doubt about this. In the same way, however, it is equally true that the same left that screams today loudly to the scandal, lashing out vehemently against Musk, it is the same one that for years has allowed itself to be generously supported by foreign philanthropists and speculatorsabove all George Soroseager to influence Italy’s migration policies. That same left which, in the bloody season of Clean Hands, did not dare to bat an eyelid at the constant trespassing of the American consulate in Milan which, on the contrary, always had a free hand to direct the work of that pool of judges who would soon raze the First Republic to the ground.

Now, therefore, it is natural to ask ourselves: do the cases just mentioned (and they are certainly not the only ones) perhaps represent attempts, as much and much more than Musk’s, of interference by foreign subjects in internal political dynamics? Why has the left that is so indignant today at Elon Musk’s words never before been concerned about the interference and role played by the foreign subjects mentioned above? Maybe. To be malicious, one would almost think that on the left they are so indignant because, unlike the cases mentioned above, in this specific case they have not managed to derive any benefit, neither political, nor economic, nor of any other nature from foreign interference. But this, it should be underlined, is only a fleeting evil thought. The real reasons will certainly be othersthere is no doubt.

Having said and specified, it may be useful to ask one last question: what would the position of progressive Italians on Musk be today if the Tesla CEO had financed Kamala Harris’ electoral campaign and had energetically defended the immigration policies of a center-left executive?
