After the presentation a few weeks ago, the time has now come for our test of the new Hypershell X Ultra S. Exoskeleton capable of increasing the strength and resistance of the thigh muscles. Product suitable for various types of activities such as running, walking, trekking, cycling and more.
This is the most advanced model of the new 2026 range, which introduces a series of improvements in terms of components, comfort and AI compared to the previous series we reviewed last year.
Let us therefore analyze in detail all the features and performances of the Hypershell
Design and packaging
Hypershell X Ultra S boasts the same advanced design as the previous X Ultra. A structure with modern, refined and not too flashy lines, characterized by the use of refined materials. Let’s start with the lumbar area, made of 3D printed aerospace titanium alloy (an absolute first in the sector) and in the shape of an inverted “U”.
On the back side of the exoskeleton we find the removable 5,000 mAh – 72Wh battery, the USB port for charging and 2 extendable elements that allow us to adapt the exoskeleton to our waistline and hips. USB port which also allows charging of other devices such as smartphones. The internal area, however, features padding with a waterproof and removable synthetic fabric covering, improved compared to the previous model. Multi-layer Aeroflex support system that offers 22% more lumbar support, according to the company. Additionally, a new honeycomb silicone anti-slip mesh creates evenly distributed contact points for a more secure and stable fit.
We continue with the strap present in the front and lateral area of the exoskeleton. Belt in technical fabric, to be positioned above the navel, similar to the one found on backpacks, equipped with removable padding and adjustable buckle.
Let’s move on to the hips. Here we find two electric motors, one on each side, at hip height, with two joints that allow the movement of the leg. The X Ultra S and Max S versions use the new generation M-One Ultra electric motor, designed to ensure more efficient assistance on different terrains. The tests, SGS certified, confirm the ability of M-One Ultra to reduce oxygen consumption by up to 39.2% and heart rate by up to 42.7%, while decreasing muscle load and improving overall athletic performance. The exoskeleton reduces muscle fatigue by up to 63%, according to company claims, making every walk easier, more comfortable and more enjoyable. The M-One Ultra dual motor system generates up to 1,000W of peak power and 22Nm of maximum torque.

The all-new HyperSense user motion detection system uses high-precision sensors, offering a human-machine synchronization rate of 97.5%, responds in 0.31 seconds, and boasts a 64.5% faster response speed than the previous generation. Additionally, the XS Series’ HyperCore system pairs an automotive-grade AI chip with an advanced motor control processor, enabling a 36-fold performance improvement over the previous generation, according to company statements. System that also uses HyperIntuition AI which we will analyze later.
Electric motors and joints connected to two curved carbon rods that run down the thigh and attach above the knee via soft breathable bands with adjustable buckles. Bands also equipped with an adjustment to adapt the Hypershell X Ultra S to the length of our thigh.

Let’s not forget the single button on the right side and the 4 status LEDs useful for managing the power supply, operating mode and power of the exoskeleton and monitoring the residual autonomy. Control with integrated vibration.
Hypershell Product resistant to dust and water (IP54 certification) and to temperatures between -20°C and 60°C.
Finally, the excellent packaging: a practical suitcase, now more compact and of better quality than the previous version, with second battery, USB cable and manual in English. Package that now also includes a 65W charger and a base that allows the charging of 4 batteries.
Operation, technical features and apps

The Hypershell Simply tie it at your waist and clip it to your legs just above the knee. Once turned on, Hypershell will automatically push your thighs up and down as you walk, thus taking the strain off your leg muscles. The exoskeleton is able to quickly adapt to our actions, even when we quickly change the pace of walking or when starting/stopping the movement of the lower limbs.
The Hypershell Hypershell+ app, in Italian, capable of connecting to the smartphone via Bluetooth. Application capable of showing the walking speed, the remaining battery life also expressed in kilometers that can be walked, the type of movement and the temperature of the electric motors.

Let’s start with Eco mode which preserves the battery and is suitable for not particularly intense efforts such as walking. To obtain maximum performance from the exoskeleton, the Hyper mode can be activated, ideal for more demanding uses. Finally, the Fitness mode for muscle training. Mode that does not help the user, but offers resistance by slowing down the movement of the legs. In Fitness mode, the motors generate progressive resistance that increases as the leg is raised, providing an anaerobic leg workout similar to that with resistance bands. Each mode also has various intensity levels that can be adjusted by the user based on the activity performed.
We also remember the command that allows you to temporarily deactivate the help of the electric motors (Transparency mode) and the Boost function which provides maximum performance for 30 seconds.

We then find the section dedicated to tracking the activity carried out. New to the 2026 series is the advanced AI HyperIntuition capable of detecting the type of user activity in real time, adjusting the exoskeleton settings accordingly. Alternatively, the “old” adaptive recognition algorithm is available which also allows you to manually select various activities: walking, uphill, downhill, running, gravel, snow, mountain, going up/down stairs, cycling, competitive walking, dunes.
We continue with the MotionEngine Ultra section dedicated to the operation of electric motors. Here we find the new “Delicate” mode for more gradual assistance when proceeding in small steps. We also find the low speed and basic modes. We continue with the possibility of regulating the response speed of the exoskeleton to the user’s movements, the distribution of force between the two legs and the management of the cooling/performance of the two electric motors.
App that includes various usage statistics, user preferred settings, an initial setup (how to wear, adjust and use the exoskeleton), various guides, the user manual and the exoskeleton firmware update function.
User experience, versions and prices

Overall our evaluation of the Hypershell X Ultra S is positive. Exoskeleton capable of significantly increasing the strength and resistance of the thigh muscles. Robust product, well built, versatile and easy to use. High power output.
During excursions or walks, Hypershell allows you to cover large distances that could not be reached otherwise. Furthermore, it is particularly suitable for people who are poorly trained or no longer very young, allowing them to tackle even challenging routes without great effort. Useful product to reduce fatigue not only on mountain paths and steep climbs, but also on descents and in the workplace.
Exoskeleton that allows a fluid and natural walk, which does not require adaptation by the user. The X Ultra S is also suitable for cycling, particularly on routes that require pedaling at a fairly constant pace.

The ergonomics are very good, with the harness not hindering hip and leg movements in any way. Product, however, not suitable for very thin people or with a large waistline. The physical interface with a single button dedicated to managing numerous functions is not very practical. It is difficult to use with some trekking backpacks: the battery and the rear structure could hinder the correct positioning of the backpack on the back.
The product also tends to be “addictive”. We therefore recommend deactivating it periodically so as not to let the muscles get too used to the help of the exoskeleton. Furthermore, its intensive use could overload the knee and other joints of the lower limbs.
Hypershell According to company statements, Hypershell may also not be suitable for those with spinal problems. The motors anchor force into your hips and lower back, which may place additional pressure on your spine. Product that does not affect balance and does not help you stay or stand up.

Let’s move on to the analysis of the decidedly variable autonomy based on the power required by the electric motors and the activity performed. The X Ultra S model promises autonomy of up to 30 km in Eco mode with 7.5 hours of use and power at 30%, according to company statements. Values in line with those detected during our tests. The absorption of the Hyper mode at maximum power is very high, with the autonomy dropping to 5-6 km. We remind you of the two batteries supplied, with charging times of approximately 90 minutes.

Positive opinion on the app and on the automatic recognition of various physical activities. The work done by the new AI HyperIntuition is very good.
The new series, available in the X Ultra S, X Max S and X Pro S models, introduces a series of improvements designed for longer, more intense and demanding outdoor use.
