Iliad down, what's happening

Difficult day for users Iliadan Italian telecommunications operator which is part of the French group of the same name: thousands of users have started reporting malfunctions since the morning of Thursday 17 October, around 8.30 am, with a peak around 12. Subsequently the situation improved and definitively returned in the early afternoon as can be seen from the constantly updated website downdetector.it.

The areas of interruption

The graph that can be consulted shows the reports of the last few hours: in detail, 37% of Iliad users who forwarded the report complained about lack of signal, 33% malfunctions with the website and 30% with mobile Internet. On the national map the red color indicates peaks in the large cities of the North, especially Bologna, in the Center those affected by the downturn are mainly Perugia and Rome while in the South Naples stands out, fewer reports have arrived from all the other capitals. Many have tried turning the devices off and on again but without obtaining significant results.

User complaints

As often happens in these cases the rumor spread online: initially users were worried that the problem was limited to the individual only to then discover that it was a generalized problem. “The phone doesn’t work and I can’t access the data area“, wrote a user on X. “The Iliad connection at home isn’t working, you call 177 but the operator can’t intervene because the line doesn’t work for them either (update), we’ll have to wait for them to solve theirs to be able to solve my problem and above all I’ll have to call back!”, writes another user.

Marius, commenting directly on the Downdetector chat this morning, stated that he had telephoned 177 to report the website and the Internet line not working properly as well as disturbances during phone calls and that he received the answer that it was a “national failure”. . There are also problems for Italians abroad as Kenan pointed out. “I’m in France and since last night at midnight there’s no signal. I manually tried to select each network option that appeared but nothing, I can’t connect to any network. I tried to access my personal area but I can’t log in. I also tried using the VPN by selecting Italy as the country and trying to log in again but still nothing.”

The Iliad note

Iliad clarifies that the network problem arose already in the late morning, which it had

a very limited impact and mainly connected to international traffic”: this is the official communication received by the newspaper regarding today’s malfunctions from the telephone operator.
