Instagram allows you to edit direct messages

After years of insistence from users, Instagram is preparing to introduce the possibility of modifying the direct message up to 15 minutes after sending them. It seems trivial, because many other platforms have allowed this type of modification for several years, however, Instagram aficionados had to wait almost 11 years to be able to do it.

Direct messages are those that users exchange privately with each other and are vital to any social platform. Yet, Instagram does not seem to have focused enough on this functionality, so much so that over the years it has implemented several – the latest of which is the Friend map – which are certainly useful but less important.

Instagram and direct messages

The ability to edit messages is being rolled out starting in the United States of America, which means that future updates to the app will also include this functionality for users. Italian users.

The announcement was made by Meta, the company that develops Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram and follows the same functionality provided to WhatsApp users who, in fact, can only modify a message sent starting from May 2023.

To edit a message you will need to touch it and hold it down for a few moments, until a menu opens from which you can select “edit”. Nothing new neither in form nor in substance and this, however, sounds like an aggravating factor for the guilty delay.

Social platforms study each other, copying new features and introducing them to distance themselves from the competition. In this specific case, Meta has no excuses: since it allows you to modify messages sent via WhatsApp, it has evidently waited to find out the level of satisfaction by users before granting the same treatment to those who use Instagram.

The other news

Meta has announced that it will be possible to pin up to three Instagram chats at the top of the conversation list and this refers to what was written before: the same functionality was introduced on WhatsApp in December 2023. These are cluesbut it seems that WhatsApp has become the gym of Instagram: the new features are tested first in the instant messaging app and only then on Instagram. This suggests what the priorities are for Meta and which of the two platforms it is focusing on more for the future.

The innovations are also visual, because the eye wants its part. New animations and some new themes for chats will be added, with the possibility of saving stickers as favorites and easily finding them when needed.
