Israel, Hamas slows down on truce. And Hezbollah "promises" blood

Despite the glimmers of optimism in the last few hours, Gaza Ceasefire Agreement Seems Far Away. Israel confirmed the claims of the United States according to which after two days of talks in Doha there would have been significant progress, but Hamas does not share this opinion. According to the Jewish state, the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would have given Israeli negotiators a lot of leeway, prompting US President Joe Biden to say he was quite confident: “I’m optimistic. But it’s far from over. There are a couple of other issues. I think we have a chance.” But for the Palestinian terror group, that’s not enough.

A Hamas official has called US President Joe Biden’s words that a truce in Gaza has never been closer “an illusion.” “To say that we are close to an agreement is an illusion,” says a member of the Hamas political bureau Sami Abu Zuhri in a statement sent to AFP. The Palestinian added: “We do not see an agreement or real negotiations, but rather the imposition of American diktats.”

Translated in other words: there is no agreement and it is unlikely to arrive soon. With all due respect to those who blame Israel for wanting to continue the hostilities. In the last few hours, Hamas had highlighted that any ceasefire agreement in Gaza must include the total withdrawal of Israeli forces from the conflict territory. “Any agreement must reach a comprehensive ceasefire, a complete (Israeli) withdrawal from Gaza, (and) the return of displaced persons,” official Hossam Badran confirmed in a statement.

Pending the resumption of talks scheduled for next week in Cairo, the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is expected back in Israel this weekend. One of the priorities of the possible truce and hostage deal is to persuade theIran not to respond to the killing of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in an attack in Tehran.

But Israel also has to deal with another, very delicate, front: we are talking about Hezbollah. The militants fired a barrage of rockets into the north of the Jewish state in response to the IDF’s overnight attack on Wadi al-Kfour in southern Lebanon, which killed ten people, including two children. According to the Israeli military, 55 rockets were fired into the Ayelet Hashahar area, many of which fell in uninhabited areas. But that’s not all.

Like in a movie trailer, Hezbollah has released a propaganda video on the internet to shed light on resources. In the wake of Hamas, an underground labyrinth made of enormous tunnels is shown, with militiamen on motorbikes under yellow banners. Some are on the phone and some are on the computer: sophisticated technology, coming from abroad. There is even a service that manages the traffic of vehicles and men, complete with rocket launchers and weapons of all kinds. A warning, a threat, as you wish: certainly a promise of “blood” to Israel.
