Lombardy, all in pursuit of Pogacar
Once the lap of Lombardy, which runs on Saturday 11 October, closed the season. Today no longer because now we continue to run elsewhere, we always run, perhaps even too much. But “Tour of the Death Leaves” remains the last monument of the season and retains all its charm and its history intact. This year we start from Como and we arrive after 238 km in Bergamo, because this is how the tradition that wants to start and arrival inverted to alternate years, with a path that will follow that of two years ago. You are the great abscesses scheduled, starting with the Madonna del Ghisallo and then continues with Roncola, Berbenno, Passo della Crocetta, Zambla Alta and Passo di Ganda. The last four editions have been monopolized by the world champion Tadej Pogacar, who with a possible success would mark a record of consecutive victories that have also escaped Fausto Coppi who however won five. So it is the mandatory favorite. In the last four editions won by the Slovenian behind him many arrived: Adam Yates, Primaz Roglic, Mikel Landa, Remco Evenepoel, Giulio Ciccone all high -level runners. This year they will try to contend for the victory Remco Evenepotel in a World Cup in the world and, with less Chancs, Tom Pidcock
Departure from Como in the direction of Cantù. Ghisallo is scaled as the first roughness, but from the ace side to go down to Bellagio and reach Lecco along the shore of Lake Como. Entering the province of Bergamo begins the series of roughness that leads to the arrival characterized by a continuous succession of climbs and descents almost without flat traits between one and the other. The Roncola (Valpiana pass, slopes of up to 17%) is scaled first). Follow the climbs of Berbenno, Dossena, Zambla Alta and Passo di Ganda which bring the overall difference in height above 4400 m. From Ganda you arrive in Selvino where the classic long rhythmic descent of 19 hairpin bends begins. There are therefore 9 km approach to the city (the only flat of the whole ending) and the classic passage of the upper city until the arrival. Last kilometers through Bergamo Alta going up to the Garibaldi door and then (with 200 m in cobbled) to Largo Colle Open. In the first part the slopes are always above 10% (max 12%). Downhill the roadway is wide on a smooth background. To the 1800 m from the arrival of dry turned with short narrow strand for the overcoming of the Sant’Agostino gate. After the last wide kilometer curved on the left to enter the straight that leads to the arrival. Final fee of 800 m, downhill in the first part and flat then.
