The initiative, that is the bus practically reserved for Jews onlywas established at the request of the Jewish community itself in collaboration with Interlink and the Jewish Leadership Council. The line will connect Golders Green with Stamford Hill, the two neighborhoods where many Orthodox Jewish families live and will eliminate the intermediate change, until now necessary, at Finsbury Park station because precisely at that station, and especially at those stops, there have been repeated reports of harassment of British Jewish citizens recognizable by their way of dressing.
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khanspoke at the event that inaugurated the new urban line and in his speech he highlighted important details: “When I was re-elected I promised Londoners that I would introduce this line (the bus line) and I am delighted to have kept it (the promise). This service will appeal to many local residentsespecially the Jewish community and will help build a safer environment. London is fairer and greener for everyone (because only he knows how to be greener). We have heard news of London Jews verbally abused and others are not leaving their homes because they are worried about their safety. I don’t want any Londoner to be afraid to leave their home because they are worried about public transport. I think we need to acknowledge the fear that citizens feel because they are Jewish; we must recognize the waves of hate that Jews throughout the country feel and be good allies to our Jewish friends and neighbors.”
At this point, I think, everyone is convinced that this is good news. Instead, no, it is terrible. If in a city like London we get to the point of setting up dedicated lines to safeguard a part of the population for religious, ethnic or any other reasons, it means that those buses will be new ghettos. Like the one established by the Republic of Venice in 1516 to protect the Jews from the raids of the Christians. Well, today as then, London establishes ghetto on wheels to protect Jews from anti-Semitic raids.
I believe that Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, instead of introducing a bus line, should have introduced a hard line of zero tolerance for thugs that animates Finsbury Park station and make them understand, by fair means or foul, especially the latter, that in a state of law certain behaviors cannot be tolerated. But we know, by now in Europe the law is an animal in danger of extinction and the State, or rather the States, will soon be Sultanates.
