Mega explosion on the Sun: the Northern Lights return to Italy too, but there is a risk of an extreme geomagnetic storm

The Sun has emitted a powerful X9.0-class flare towards Earth, the strongest since 2017. The violent solar flare could cause a severe (G4) to extreme (G5) geomagnetic storm.

The flow of X-rays produced by the event – the most powerful of the entire solar cycle – is much more intense than that which occurred in mid-May, class 8.7. To find a more powerful storm you have to go back to early September 2017, when an X-class 9.3 flare occurred at the end of the solar cycle.

The warning for the geomagnetic storm already issued for the previous see auroras even from the Alps.

The new event may have produced a new significant coronal mass emission; more detailed information will be known in the next few hours.
