This morning the Bundestag voted to name Friedrich Merz Chancellor of the Germany. However, for the first time in the history of the Federal Republic, the designated candidate did not obtain the necessary trust in the first ballot. Merz, leader of the Cdu-Csu, missed the goal for only six votes, collecting 310 preferences against the 316 requested. The No were 307, with three abstentions. Following the result, the session in Parliament was suspended to allow further consultations between the political groups.
