Microsoft pushes almost 60 thousand employees into voluntary exodus: who it concerns

Microsoft has offered financial incentives to nearly 60,000 of its employees around the world to push them to voluntarily leave the company. The head of human resources, Amy Coleman, sent a communication to the tech giant’s workers on October 26th. At the end of June 2026, Microsoft could count on approximately 223 thousand employees.

The statement

“This offering gives eligible employees who may be considering a future outside the company a new opportunity to make this transition now, with support,” is Coleman’s message to Microsoft employees. The “slide” to voluntary exodus affects workers in the United States, Canada, India and the United Kingdom. The offer will not apply to data center, sales and marketing employees.

The statement follows the voluntary retirement proposal put forward in April 2026 and which could affect 7 percent of employees in the United States.

The company is facing a massive investment plan in artificial intelligence. Giants like Anthropic and Open Ai rely on Microsoft’s cloud services and increasingly need computing capacity and power.
