"Millions of PCs at security risk". Microsoft's announcement for users

Today – Tuesday 14 October – will mark the farewell to Windows 10. Microsoft, in fact, will cease to provide support for the operating system, ending the free updates essential to guarantee security, and some important functions will become obsolete and will be abandoned. It will therefore be a farewell to the operating system released in 2015 and which has accompanied many users for ten years.

According to what has been reported in recent weeks, it will not be a total and immediate stop. Several users (i.e. those who are part of the European Economic Area) will be able to count on a one-year extension, but the intentions of Microsoft are clear: convince to switch as soon as possible to Windows 11. Starting tomorrow, therefore, Windows 10 will not stop working: users can breathe a sigh of relief. You will be able to continue using your computer as usual, but this is temporary. Furthermore, as updates are no longer available, we must consider the fact that devices will be more exposed and vulnerable to hacker attacks. No more security updates or possible bug fixes. This, unfortunately, will be the consequence for those who choose to stay with the old operating system.

Clearly all this did not please the many millions of users who own Windows 10. Many have complained, and among these the voice of Public Interest Research Groupthe American Consumer Rights Association. “Up to 400 million computers worldwide will not be able to upgrade to Windows 11 and this could lead to a huge surge in e-waste“, is what the organization declared on its website. The press release also points out that in the previous transitions from one version to another the updates have always remained compatible even for computer less modern.

There are too many people at risk, who have Windows 10 models that are still fully functional and could still guarantee many years of autonomy. In America, therefore, a one-year extension is being requested, exactly as happened in the EU countries.
