In less than two months a new regulation Which will have inevitable consequences on the market of smartphones and tablets, i.e. the most popular mobile electronic devices.
Also in Italy, therefore, starting to be precise from Friday 20 June, the new rules to protect consumers will be applied which will have as its main objective to guarantee greater durability of devices and to facilitate the right to repair as much as possible, both to avoid waste and to reduce the inevitable repercussions on the environment.
As mentioned, a first fundamental piece of this legislation is to encourage the longevity of smartphones and tablets, lengthening its life thanks to a series of precautions in the production phase such as to guarantee a higher level of protection from dust and water as well as resistance from accidental damage deriving from bumps, scratches and any falls. Statistically these are above all the reasons behind the frequent replacements of the electronic furniture devices, and often and willingly the excessive vulnerability, combined with the need to face practices and repair costs certainly not encouraging, pushes consumers to buy a new device instead of regenerating the damaged one.
And here we come to the second point of the new regulation, namely the promotion of the right to repair: The rules promoted by the EU forces manufacturers to guarantee the easy availability of spare parts for at least seven years from the date of sale. Not only that: the part to be replaced, whatever it is, must be made available to the consumer within 5-10 working days to the maximum, which clearly contributes to encouraging the repair, becoming this much easier and faster. The hope is to extend the life of these electronic devices, limiting the use of new purchases as much as possible and reducing the number of those to be disposed of.
The third element of these new regulations is to oblige manufacturers to create anenergy label Also on smartphones and tablets exactly as it already happens for household appliances: to be inserted, to be precise, crucial information on energy efficiency, battery life and the level of dust resistance,
water and falls. With these elements in his possession, the consumer will be able to make a more aware choice of his purchase, evaluating other parameters that until now were not kept in great consideration.
