News coming to chats and channels: here's what the WhatsApp revolution will be

The development team of WhatsApp is working to complete the creation of a very ambitious project that could soon provide users all over the world with a communication tool of fundamental importance: the functionality will in fact allow everyone to benefit from automatic and immediate translation of the contents of conversations and those of the channels.

According to what was reported in an absolute preview by the WaBetaInfo experts, the novelty has been included in the package relating to the update of the instant messaging app for Android 2.24.15.12 launched through the Google Play Beta Program. Unlike what happened in other circumstances, however, the functionality has not yet been made available to all beta testers, so it is present in the update package but not usable: the main reason is that it is an additional option still under development.

Due to this, therefore, it is currently difficult to understand when its launch in a beta version of WhatsApp will take place, much less to hypothesize the moment in which everyone will be able to benefit from it. Despite the fact that it is essentially a function that is unclear in its details, the WaBetaInfo team was able to benefit from some previews that allow us to make a series of important considerations.

How this new system will be set up automatic translation? Apparently users will have the possibility to download language packs in advance to be able to use this functionality even if they are not connected to a network. The WhatsApp developers would therefore have programmed the translation system in such a way that it takes place entirely on the user’s electronic device, therefore without the need to send the data to Meta servers or third-party services. By doing so, you essentially guarantee the maintenance of the end-to-end encryptionand consequently the privacy of users of the instant messaging app is protected.

Once downloaded and installed the language package of our interest, therefore, the electronic device will be able to autonomously translate messages and updates from the channels without the need for an active Internet connection. With the ability to translate a selected message or enable automatic translations for all new messages, users will then be able to break down language barriers and communicate effortlessly with people from all over the world. There is, however, one aspect to consider, also highlighted by the WhatsApp developers themselves: occasional errors or inaccuracies may occur in offline translations that are based on pre-downloaded data.

This is a necessary compromise to preserve end-to-end encryption and ensure user privacy is protected. The developers are working hard to improve the language packages as much as possible, before making them available to beta testers.
