Agreement rejected
The plan proposed by Iranian diplomacy contained nothing new, but what had already been decided in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding: cessation of hostilities, including on the Lebanese front, unfreezing of at least 12 billion dollars of Iranian assets, easing of sanctions on oil and lifting of the naval blockade. Only after these concessions from Washington, therefore, would the Islamic Republic reopen Hormuz within seven days. According to the Wall Street Journal, Trump said “no”, pushing away a truce that in recent days seemed slightly closer.
Behind-the-scenes diplomacy continues to work, but the road appears more uphill than ever.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced during an interview with CBS that Iran will allow United Nations nuclear inspectors to enter the country. “If they want to come and carry out inspections, we can reach agreements and understandings on this specific topic as part of the negotiations,” Pezeshkian said.
