Primordial universe, new galaxy discovery

They called it “big man”, that is “panoramic wheel” because it is like a disc that revolves like a spiral galaxy, that is, as the Milky Way, our galaxy. It is surprisingly large and is located in the primordial universe or in an initial cosmic period, about two billion years after the Big Bang. The new galaxy is the last, great discovery of the “Cosmic Web” research group, born within the Astrophysics Unit of the Physics Department of the University of Milan-Bicocca, reported in an article published yesterday on “Nature Astronomy” signature of Weichen Wang and Sebastiano Cantalupo, respectively research assignist (post-doc) and full professor of the University. A young man (he is 44 years old) researcher, winner of an ERC loan (European Research Council) in 2020, returned to Italy after 17 years abroad (from the Polytechnic of Zurich to the University of Cambridge, the University of California in Santa Cruz), then choosing the Bicocca to continue its research lines. Here are the results. “When and how galactic records are formed, it is still an enigma in modern astronomy explains Sebastiano Cantalupo the first years of observations of the James Webb Space Telescope have revealed a plethora of galactic records in the primordial universe, which corresponds to a cosmic era of eleven billion years ago, or two billion years after the Big Bang. Before our observation, however, only much smaller galactic records were discovered by JWST than those we see in the local universe. For this reason, it was thought so far that the formation of the biggest records had requested most of the age of the universe. In order to be able to make new light on the matter, we paid our attention to the primordial universe and, in particular, to a special cosmic environment ». It is a specific region of heaven, which is located at 11-12 billion years light away from us and which will probably evolve into a pile of galaxies, a region almost unique in the universe, exceptionally dense, with a high concentration of galaxies, gas and black holes. «A laboratory in which the mechanisms of galaxies can be studied. In fact, thanks to the finished speed of the light, observations and images of the telescope are a photo of that region of heaven when the universe was only 2 billion years old ».

And there was discovered “Big Wheel” about three times larger than the previously discovered galaxies with star masses and similar cosmic times, and is also at least three times larger than the current cosmological simulations. Instead comparable to the size of most of the massive records seen in the current universe.
