RingConn Gen 2 review: the smart ring for health

The RingConn Gen 2 is one of those gadgets that seem to have come out of a science fiction film, but which aim straight to solve a concrete problem: monitor daily health without filling the wrist of smartwatches and without having to pay a monthly subscription to access your data. And the interesting thing is that, in practice, it works well. Perhaps it is not as precise as a professional tool, but has the advantage of returning a trend of our parameters over time, every day, every moment …

Ringconn Gen 2

How it is done

Let’s start as it is done. The Ringconn Gen 2 is a ring very light (range from 3 to 5 grams depending on the size), resistant to everything thanks to the IP68 certification (waterproof up to 100 meters) and the use of the titanium League. Available in three colors, it has a sober and not too flashy appearance, so much so that it is quietly passed through a “normal” ring on your finger. And if you use it on the side of the faith, for those who are married, you can combine both with those in classic gold and those in “white gold” by choosing the silver version.

Inside there is technology: sensors to monitor sleep, heartbeat, stress and more. All in a form that, once worn, almost forget, even if obviously the thickness is greater than the classic “non -smart” rings.

What a measures: health and physical activity

The strong point of the Ringconn Gen 2 is its ability to collect data on our health, monitoring:

  • sleep quality, including the detection of night apneas. This is a rare function in the other rings, and it is often not even on smartwatches and smartbands
  • heart rate
  • Stress levels (through HRV)
  • SpO2 (blood oxygenation)
  • physical activity (racing, walking and bicycle) only)
RingConn App

All data are collected in the app – well done, intuitive, with light graphs and personalized suggestions to improve their habits. It is not necessary to be experts to understand it, each item is explained with clear information.

Ringconn Apnea

Unfortunately, however, you need a few seconds to synchronize the data when we open it, because the ring is not constantly connected with the smartphone to synchronize the information. This is an advantage for the battery of course, but you pay with a little more patience …

Battery: the best autonomy between the rings

Autonomy is another of the reasons why the RingConn Gen 2 stands out: up to 12 days with a single charge and, carrying the custody, you can recharge the ring even on the road.

In reality, after 8 days of continuous use, Ringconn 2 still had 26%, reaching 15% during the tenth day. Really an excellent result if we consider that the Samsung ring reached 15% after five days when Ringconn still recorded 50% battery.

Test: measures not always very precise

Comparing it with other devices for health monitoring, including the new Huawei Watch 5, there is a discreet precision even if on the steps it tends to be too generousa sign that the algorithm is not up to height since another ring and two smartwatches measured significantly lower and consistent results. The result? In a half hour session on the sofa, 15 steps were recorded with Ringconn Gen 2 (real value: zero) and in a small walk to throw the garbage recorded 350 while the other devices were between 150 and 200 steps.

Also with the detection of the SP02 it is slightly more generous than competitors, but in this case The average waste is only 1/2% more. Rinconn, however, declares that the precision in detecting night apneas is 90.7%.

In addition, the Tracking of physical activity it is very basic: recognize only race (outdoor and indoor), walk and bike (outdoor and indoor). Before each exercise you have to click on the icon in the app to start tracking.

Conclusions: for those who are recommended

The Ringconn Gen 2 is interesting for those looking for a discreet and comfortable way to monitor health every day, without the size of a smart watch and without subscriptions. Long autonomyadvanced functions (such as the monitoring of the night breathing) and a good app make it interesting, but you have to settle for algorithms still to be perfect. The data are valid, not very precise as the most expensive top of the range, but acceptable with regard to heartbeats and spo2.

On the steps there is a sensor of movement that is not yet precise: consider them more as a principle indication than as something to rely on, because the real ones are on average 15% less than those recorded by Ringconn Gen 2.

For sport, the same considerations apply: with few ways and with a sensor/algorithm so imprecise, if your goal is to seriously trace the physical activities, you have to choose other devices. The advice is to evaluate it if you are looking for something light, with an excellent battery and always listening to record sleep and health, perhaps associating it with a smart band to use instead for physical activities. Finally, the app still has some imperfection in the translation, but this is the least of the defects because it can be easily correct with an update.

The price is not cheap: it costs € 349 on Amazon but has the advantage of Do not request a subscription monthly, to have uexcellent battery and to be able to

Connect directly to Google Fit to save the historian of our data.
