Smartphone, how to increase battery life: advice on "Battery Day"

“Battery Day” is celebrated on February 18th of each year drums in honor of the Italian scientist Alessandro Volta, a forerunner in this field with the first “pile” shown to the world now more than 200 years ago, was 1801, i.e. the first static electricity generator ever made previously. Since then, progress has been enormous and today, generally, millions of consumers around the world are more interested in the battery of their devices, cell phones and smartphones of the latest generation, now daily life companions for most of the day. Here are some tips to avoid having the anxiety of not making it to the end of the day if you don’t have a charger at hand.

The apps that consume the most battery

Even if nowadays modern lithium batteries have extended the life of devices, if they are used frequently and certain precautions are not taken, their life inexorably decreases. First of all, it is above all the batteries that “dry up” the batteries app of social networks. In second place here is location if it always remains active but also the use of apps in background. In more modern devices, under the “Battery” item you can observe the statistics relating to consumption with the appropriate item (for iPhone) with the wording “Battery usage per app”: in this way you become aware of which consumes more but even simple browsing on the Internet (under Safari). The same obviously applies to Android devices which have the same voice and the ability to monitor and adjust accordingly.

What happens with social media

According to some analyzes carried out by the DXOMARK company which carries out tests on all types of smartphones, the very frequent use of old text messages exceeds that of WhatsApp or Messenger (Facebook) in terms of consumption. It is clear that the visualization of the video that the various Instagram, Tik Tok or YouTube offers us, for example, leads to excessive battery consumption which will last significantly less in proportion to the time used. But it’s not just the apps and social media that are to blame if our device will have an increasingly lower percentage: the brightness of the screen matters a lot because, based on its adjustment, it allows us to consume or save more battery. Some Apple and Android devices automatically adjust the intensity based on the time of day.

More tricks to save battery

Those who love this type of “savings”, for example, can deactivate the reception of the Data Network when it connects us to the Wifi and vice versa but also when the signal is weak with our device which, in the effort to guarantee the best possible reception, inevitably consumes a lot of battery. By deactivating Wi-Fi when you are outside or in a place where it is not possible to have it, the savings increase significantly compared to leaving it active regardless. It also consumes a lot Bluetooth for which the previous rule applies: don’t keep it activated all the time but only when needed.

Chapter notifications: they also contribute to the shorter life of our battery but they can be managed by activating only the essential ones and not necessarily all of them (including those of social media, for example). The more they buy on the screen, the more, inevitably, the consumption will be higher. Some free apps are also very expensive and often automatically activate advertising banners lasting a few seconds, pop-ups but also videos that you have to watch: in this case too, consumption increases. Those who can, can then decide to activate the vibration instead of the ringtone: in the first case the battery life will be longer.

Those who want to avoid, however, running out of battery or decide to consume the maximum possible from their mobile phone, here come the portable chargers better known by the name of Power Bank.
