SoftBank shares lost more than 11% on the Tokyo stock exchange on Monday 14 September 2026, in a heavily negative session for the Japanese technology giant.

The collapse was triggered by investor fears linked to the concerns of the big artificial intelligence players about the security of the technology. The decline hits a company increasingly exposed to debt, which is financing large-scale investments in the tech sector, the agencies say.
Over 60 billion invested in OpenAI
SoftBank is a major backer of OpenAI, the company that makes ChatGpt: its overall investment in the company is expected to reach nearly $65 billion by October. On the financial front, as reported by Bloomberg, last week SoftBank signed a two-year agreement for an $11.87 billion loan, with the participation of around 20 banks.
