Starmer plays Vannacci but the left is not indignant

The new prime minister Keir Starmer He thanked the predecessor Sunak as “the first Asian British president”. But why this racial connotation? Why was there a need to detail Sunak’s family tree? Sunak has Indian parents but was born in Africa and after two generations away from his native Punjab, he was born in England and is “British” in all respects.

Given that in my opinion it should never be a problem to underline someone’s origins, but rather a reason for pride, I am very surprised that if a random Vannacci says that Paola Egonu he has no Italian features, so starting from an aesthetic ideal of Italianness which is certainly not something fixed but evolving, accusations of racism immediately arise.

But if we assume an aesthetic ideal of “Britishness” Labour Starmer is doing it, because that’s what the new British Prime Minister has done, he has implicitly stated that Sunak does not have entirely British features, in this case nobody should cry racism.
