After more than twenty years the auxiliary carabinieri are back. The government has included in the economic budget for 2027 a measure that provides for the recruitment of 600 young people in the first year and another thousand every year starting from 2028. A new opportunity for those who want to wear the uniform, with an initial period of service of twelve months and a reserved lane to try to join the force on a permanent basis.
The novelty is contained in article 93 of the budget bill. Recruitment will take place on a voluntary basis and will be subject to passing the required selections.
Who can become an auxiliary carabiniere: age and requirements
The measure is aimed at young people aged up to 26 years. To participate in the selections it will be necessary to have at least a middle school diploma and satisfy the physical, mental and attitudinal suitability requirements required for enlistment.
Those who pass the selections will have to attend a training course lasting a maximum of three months. Only after passing the final tests will he be appointed auxiliary carabiniere of the voluntary reserve.
The initial shutdown will last twelve months, with the possibility of extending the service for another two years through reaffirmation. The new staff may be employed in operational and training activities, mainly on a regional basis. The auxiliaries will also be given the qualifications of public security agent and judicial police agent, in accordance with the new regulations.
How to permanently join the Carabinieri
One of the most important aspects of the news concerns career prospects. In fact, the maneuver provides that in competitions for access to initial careers in the force, up to 30% of the available places can be reserved for auxiliary carabinieri, in compliance with the overall limits established by law.
To access this possibility it will be necessary to have completed at least twelve months of service without demerit, not to have exceeded 32 years of age and to possess all the further requirements required by the competition.
The auxiliary service will therefore not automatically guarantee permanent employment: those interested will still have to participate and pass the competition procedures.
How many auxiliary carabinieri will be recruited from 2027
The plan envisaged by the Budget Law authorizes the recruitment of a maximum contingent of 600 units in 2027, destined to rise to a thousand units per year from 2028.
Increasing resources are expected to finance the measure: 41.78 million euros in 2027, 82.8 million in 2028 and 118.39 million in 2029. The allocation will reach 156.51 million in 2030, and then stabilize at 141.44 million euros per year starting from 2031.
When will the notices for auxiliary carabiniere come out: the requirements
To find out the selection dates, how to submit applications and the tests to be taken, you will have to wait for the recruitment procedures. The provision is contained in the 2027 budget bill and has yet to complete the parliamentary process. Requirements and operating methods may therefore undergo changes before final approval.
Those interested in applying must follow the publication of official notices through the institutional channels of the Carabinieri and the national public recruitment portal.
