What happened to Nancy Guthrie? While investigations into the disappearance of the 84-year-old woman, mother of NBC News journalist Savannah Guthrie, continue in the United States, the FBI has released four images of a suspicious person, a man with his face covered who was spotted near the old woman’s home.
FBI photos
The black and white photos, dating back to the morning of the disappearance, show a hooded individual, wearing gloves and a backpack, apparently armed, in front of the woman’s house in Tucson, Arizona, while he appears to tamper with the security camera outside the door of the house. FBI Director Kash Patel explained that the images were recovered from residual data from the systems and represent the first visual elements on a possible subject involved in the case.
The disappearance of Nancy Guthrie
She was reported missing on February 1, after the woman failed to connect to an online religious service. Nancy Guthrie had last been seen the previous evening, after dinner at her daughter’s house. The investigation, led by the Pima County Sheriff with the support of federal authorities, was later characterized as a criminal investigation.
The mystery of the ransom
Some media reported that they had received a ransom demand in bitcoin, but this was not confirmed by the authorities. The family launched a public appeal: in a video, Savannah Guthrie said she believes her mother is “still out there” and asked for everyone’s help to find her. The authorities, for now, have not announced briefings and invite anyone with useful information to come forward.
The 50 thousand dollar reward
Today the Federal Bureau of Investigation repeated the announcement made on February 6 on the reward of $50,000 promised in exchange “for information that may lead to the discovery of Nancy Guthrie and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.” The new post was released after the publication of the new photos: “The new images released today show an armed individual who appears to have tampered with the camera installed on Nancy Guthrie’s front door on the morning of her disappearance. The FBI is seeking information that may lead to the identification of this individual.”
Trump: “Pure disgust”
President Donald Trump also examined the FBI shots, as announced by White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt. Leavitt told reporters that he watched the video surveillance footage with Trump at the White House and that the president’s initial reaction was “pure disgust.” “The president – he added – urges all Americans who have information on the suspect to call the FBI, which continues to assist state and local authorities who are conducting investigations in the field. I reiterate once again that the prayers of the entire White House are addressed to Savannah and her family at this time, and we hope that this person will be found soon and that he will be brought home safely”.
