For one hypothesis that finds space, another ends up in the drawer, at least for the moment. A new government meeting on the economic maneuver being studied took place at lunchtime today, Tuesday 27 October, with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni summoning the allies of Forza Italia, Lega and Noi Moderati to take stock of the situation in light of yesterday’s summit at Palazzo Chigi and in view of tomorrow’s Council of Ministers on the Budget Law.
Irpef cut and flat tax
Among the news of the day there would be the farewell to the Irpef cut for the middle class. According to what was confirmed by centre-right parliamentary sources, the idea of introducing a relief for incomes over 50 thousand euros has been shelved, at least for now. The text could instead find space for a package of tax measures for young people. In fact, among the confirmed hypotheses there would be an expanded no-tax area for those under 25, tax relief for young people starting their first job and a 5% flat tax for newly hired people under 35. Among the measures that could fall within the framework of the budget there is also a card for the elderly to obtain reimbursements for medical expenses not covered by the National Health Service, starting with those for dental care.
Pension Fund
The majority would also be working to address the issue of exit flexibility on pensions. The agreement being discussed would provide for an ad hoc fund of just under one billion (the precise figure has not yet been decided) contained in the budget, which would therefore be limited to allocating the resources available for 2027. Subsequently, the measure would be articulated with a provision in January, at the end of the budget session, and implemented at an operational level.
Stop car tax
Among the measures being studied there would also be the hypothesis of extending the car tax exemption to family vans, but only for large families. The measure, which would have passed the scrutiny of the State General Accounting Office, provides for the possibility for families with at least 4 children to benefit from the exemption on vehicles with 6 to 9 seats up to 133 kW of power. Based on the decree currently in force, the exemption is instead provided for only one vehicle per family up to 80 kW of power.
