The Near-Earth 2025 QD8 asteroid passes "near" to the earth: when and how to see it

The Near-Earth 2025 QD8 asteroid is about to speed near the earth, obviously at a safe distance, however offering a show for passionate spatial phenomena.

The Near-Earth 2025 QD8 asteroid arrives

As explained by Gianluca Masi, founder and scientific manager of Virtual Telescope Project, Wednesday 3 September at 16:57 the celestial body will pass in complete safety to “only” 218 thousand kilometers from the earth, well inside the lunar orbit (about 57% of the average distance of our satellite). The Near-Earth 2025 QD8 asteroid, discovered last August 26, has an estimated diameter between 17 and 38 meters, more or less as a plane. However, dimensions reduced compared to its “relatives”, killer of city or planets, who in the past have passed near our planet.

How to see the passage of the Asteroid

Admiring the transit of Near-Earth 2025 QD8 will not be simple, but space enthusiasts will be able to attend the live streaming event on the Virtual Telescope Project website: the asteroid will be taken up thanks to its robotic telescopes installed in Manciano (Grosseto), with the commentary of the astrophysicist Gianluca Masi, founder and scientific manager of the project and coordinator for Italy of Asteroid Italy Day. The appointment is for Wednesday 3 September, starting at 1.00.
