The Oscars of sport for everyday champions
On stage, in the new Garmin headquarters in Viale del Ghisallo, many protagonists of Italian sport and the recent Parisian Olympics took to the stage: from Nicolò Martinenghigold medal in the 100 meter breaststroke, a Gabriel Soaressilver medalist in rowing in the lightweight doubles. From Roger Tita And Caterina Bantigold medal with the Nacra 17 in sailing to Daila Dameno, bronze in the compound bow at the Paralympics, Alice Bellandi gold medal in judo ea Mara Navarria gold medal in the women’s team épée event. Not just them. To pay homage to the winners of the ninth edition of Beat Yesterday there were also unforgettable champions such as the Athens gold medalist in the marathon Stefano Baldinithe winner of the Giro and Tour Vincenzo Nibali, our last world cycling champion Alexander Ballan and the strongest Italian Ironman ever Daniel Fontana. However, the spotlight was turned on the stories of ordinary people, because this is the philosophy of Garmin’s awards: businesses are for the lucky few but sport is for everyone and nothing teaches us how to improve better than sport. At all levels, at all ages: everyone has their own goal to reach and their own limit to overcome. To do this there is only one rule: dare. «We like to think that the spotlight never goes off, that the stories continue to be told and that the protagonists carry them forward day after day – he explains Stefano Viganò, CEO of Garmin Italia -. For us, sport is not just about results, performances, great victories. They are also the values that sport can transmit: dedication, commitment, courage, the challenge with oneself and with others, passion and the ability to never give up.” And so, among a thousand applications, five emerged. From the female representation of the Luna Rossa team Maria Vittoria Marchesini And Giovanna Micol to Roberto Ragazziauthor of a very difficult expedition to the Vatnajökull glacier in Iceland. And then Francesca Gasperia passionate motorcyclist who completed a charity trip to Madagascar; Claudio Pellizzenia former bank employee who decided to quit to take a very long tour of the world and finally Diego Pettorossithe only Italian amateur sprinter to take part in the Paris 2024 Games in the 200 meters specialty until the semi-finals. Different lives, stories, undertakings but all held together by the desire to get involved, to leave one’s comfort zone and to try so as not to have regrets. Doing better than what was done yesterday not necessarily to celebrate a victory but to tell of a road, a journey, a dream that comes true.
