The Spacex rocket explodes in a fire ball, for Musk it was "just a scratch"

The spatial program of Elon Musk to Mars has undergone another abrupt arrest. During a static test on the ground, the Spacex Starship rocket exploded in a huge fireball, which was seen from kilometers away. The explosion took place on the night between Wednesday and Thursday, at the Starbase base in BrownSville, in Texas, and Musk today minimized in a tweet on X, claiming that it was “only a scratch”.

Test interrupted by an anomaly

The explosion took place around 11 pm local time, while the rocket was preparing for what would have been the tenth trial flight. Spacex spoke of a ‘serious anomaly’, reassuring, however, that all the staff remained unharmed. According to Musk, who commented on the accident on his X platform, “preliminary data suggest that a nitrogen copv tank in the load compartment has sold under the test pressure”. It would be the first transfer never recorded for this type of component.

As the widespread videos on social networks show, the huge rocket 122 meters high, as much as a 40 -storey building, has undergone at least two consecutive explosions, illuminating the night sky and throwing debris in the surrounding area. Spacex has not yet provided further details on the accident.

The other failures

Last night is only the last of a series of setbacks for the Starship project. At the end of May, a test flight ended with the loss of control of the rocket halfway through the journey, preventing him from completing the main objectives of the mission. Two months earlier, the shuttle had exploded in the space a few minutes after the launch, causing the suspension of air traffic in some areas of Florida by the FAA, the Federal Aviation Agency.

The failed tests did not cause victims, but were not without consequences. In January, another starship had exploded in flight shortly after take off, dispersing debris on several Caribbean islands and causing slight damage to a car in the Turks and Caicos islands. On another occasion, fiery fragments had been sighted in the skies of southern Florida and Bahamas, generating alarms among the population.
