ThinkPad X1 Fold, Lenovo begins the era of foldable PCs

A laptop that offers respectable performance and that wants to change the way you work. This is the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold summed up in just one sentence.

A foldable laptop computer that aims to model the foldable smartphones on which manufacturers place a lot, despite the fact that they currently occupy a minimal slice of the market. Lenovo has done something more, offering a laptop entirely dedicated to professional sphereas confirmed (among other things) by the price.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold it's not the first foldable PC ever, Lenovo itself – in 2020 – produced one that looked a lot like an only partially successful test. It is for the first one who demonstrates the will to improve usability of laptops.

What's in the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold

Let's start with the hardware equipment. The computer exists in two different versions, one with a twelfth generation Intel i5 1230U chip and the other with a Intel i7 1250U. Both processors with high performance, up to 4.4 GHz and up to 4.7 GHz respectively.

Other differences between the two models are the operating system and the size of the hard disk: on the machine with the Intel i5 chip it runs Windows 11 home, on the Intel i7 one Windows 11 Pro. The first is equipped with a 256 GB SSD hard disk, the second with a 512 GB SSD. Cutting storage memory is an easily solvable problem, regardless of the device, because Cloud storage is a safe and almost mandatory alternative, especially for businesses.

For the rest the equipment is identical, i.e. 16GB of RAM, a graphics card Intel Iris Xe integrated, 5 Megapixel webcam, a 64 Wh 3-cell lithium polymer battery which guarantees the use of the device for the whole day without using the USB-C power supply. Only flaw: Ram is soldered and this is a problem for adding and replacing.

To complete the kit, the Lenovo Precision Pen and a Bluetooth keyboard with fingerprint reader. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6E and, on the edges, there are 2 Thunderbolt USB-C ports and a second generation USB-C 3.2 port.

The display of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold

The real revolution is all in the 16.3-inch foldable OLED display 4:3 format which is meant for running multiple applications in comfort. While working on a document it is possible to arrange other windows in a practical and orderly manner such as, for example, a video session (the classic remote meeting), a browser for web browsing or any other software.

The 600 nit touch screen and a 60 Hz refresh rate is the real added value, beyond the hardware equipment that positions the Lenovo ThinkPad , varies from 5,029 euros to 5,269 euros (except promotions).

The dimensions are another strong point of the Lenovo ThinkPad shape of a book thanks to the 17.4 x 176.2 x 276.2 mm format.

The laptop is built according to specifications MIL-STD-810Ha standard designed by the US Department of Defense to ensure resistance to the most extreme environmental conditions, fluid contamination and shock.
