Donald Trump receives Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House today, Tuesday 28 July. The two leaders are in Washington to participate in the commemorations of Lindsey Graham, the Republican senator who died on July 11 and a historic supporter of Israel and Ukraine.
The meetings will be separate. With Netanyahu, Trump will discuss above all the war against Iran, the suspension of American raids decided to leave room for diplomacy, the tensions between Israel and Lebanon and the possible extension of the Abraham Accords to Saudi Arabia. According to sources cited by Reuters, the Israeli prime minister will also seek the political support of the American president in view of the Israeli elections on 27 October.
Zelensky is expected to have a short private conversation with Trump instead. Kiev’s priority is to obtain the US green light to purchase new interceptors for the Patriot anti-aircraft systems, necessary to counter Russian attacks. The two presidents will also talk about the drone deal, possible Ukrainian production of Patriot missiles and the resumption of negotiations with Moscow. After the White House, Zelensky is expected in Congress for a meeting with American senators.
