Two people have died in the Moscow region during a new wave of Ukrainian drone attacks. An oil refinery was also hit in the Russian capital as the country enters the final day of parliamentary elections.

Voting is taking place in Russia, but the opponents are already out of the picture

According to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, the last few hours would have been one of the largest drone offensives ever directed against the capital. Russian defenses have reportedly shot down more than 1,600 unmanned aerial vehicles since Saturday, around 450 of them headed towards Moscow.

However, some drones managed to reach the area of ​​a refinery, while another hit a residential building.

According to what local witnesses reported, the refinery targeted by the Ukrainian attack was one of the largest oil refineries in Russia, located in the Kapotnya district of Moscow. Approximately 40% of the Russian capital’s fuel market and 70% of the Moscow region’s gasoline and jet fuel needs depend on the refinery – capable of refining 11 million tons of crude oil per year.

Sobyanin reported that there were no casualties in the city of Moscow. The toll is heavier in the region surrounding the capital. Governor Andrei Vorobyov reported two deaths and several buildings damaged. In Ramenskoye district around 400 people, including 70 children, were evacuated from a 21-storey building after the attacks.

The new offensive comes despite the announcement made in recent days by US President Donald Trump, according to which Russia and Ukraine had agreed to stop attacks on energy infrastructure. However, attacks against energy plants and networks continued on both sides.

Kiev has been under attack for 24 hours

Alarms, drone buzzes and explosions follow one another even 800 kilometers away from Moscow: the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, has been under continuous Russian attack for over 24 hours. With the death of a child, the number of victims has risen to four: yesterday a mother and her two children, a girl and a boy, were killed following a Russian attack in the Fastiv district, in the Kiev region.
