“Europe is our destiny, the destiny that we have – wisely – chosen. Young people know this well, who feel like European citizens as well as of their own country. Erasmus – together with free movement, with the Schengen rules – was for many an extraordinary engine of encounters, of knowledge, of growth, of formidable dynamism. In this regard I would like to remember and renew gratitude towards Sofia Corradi, who recently passed away, who of the program Erasmus was the creator: promoting a great, effective innovation for the continent and its young people.” President Mattarella said this as he delivered the honors of the Order “Al Merito del Lavoro” to the Knights appointed on 2 June 2025.
