The combat flag flies at the stern of the Trieste ship, the amphibious assault unit of the Italian Navy, delivered to the Julian capital on a symbolic day, October 26, 71 years after the city’s return to Italy torn apart by the Second World War. The ceremony on board the largest unit ever launched by the Navy was touching and full of meaning and values. “The war flag is not an honorific – Defense Minister Guido Crosetto said in front of the departments lined up in the belly of the ship – It is a responsibility. In that flag there is written your duty, your commitment to defend the country. Behind that flag there are the people who died for their homeland, who were injured. But there are also those who were not born, to whom we must deliver a better world. There are your families and ours, there is everything in that flag”. The combat Tricolor was awarded by the mayor of Trieste, Roberto Dipiazza, in the presence of the ship’s exceptional godmother, Laura Mattarella, daughter of the President of the Republic.
