VILLA SANDI NEXT TO THE COLLECTION
PEGGY GUGGENHEIM OF VENICE
The Moretti Polegato family confirms its cultural commitment
and his connection with the city by joining the Guggenheim Intrapresæ project
Crocetta del Montello, 06 November 2024 – Villa Sandi strengthens its commitment in the cultural field and its bond with Venice by announcing the important union with the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, among the most prestigious modern art institutions at an international level. The winery, leader in the production of wines and Prosecco Docg and Doc in Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, joins the Guggenheim Intrapresæ project and becomes part of a group of internationally renowned companies that passionately supports programming and initiatives from the Peggy Guggenheim Collection.
The collaboration is an opportunity to celebrate the first forty years since the opening to the public of Villa Sandi, a historic Palladian school building located among the green hills of the Treviso area which gives its name to the company. After a careful restoration that lasted several years, it was among the first Italian companies to welcome external visitors, thus promoting art and beauty as part of its identity. And by 2024 the winery is preparing to cross the historic milestone of 500,000 visits, confirming its role as ambassador of culture, art and flavours.
The connection with the Peggy Guggenheim Collection was born from the company’s desire to support culture with a concrete gesture, promoting dialogue between art and business, and enhancing the artistic heritage of Venice for the benefit of new generations and visitors from all over the world.
“Wine, like art, is a vehicle of excellence capable of sharing a wealth of emotions. For this reason, embracing such a prestigious project as Guggenheim Intrapresæ not only fills us with pride, but confirms our deep connection with Venice and its rich cultural heritage. Through this collaboration, we are committed to enhancing and preserving artistic treasures, becoming custodians of a legacy that goes beyond our time,” declares Giancarlo Moretti Polegato, President of Villa Sandi. “We are linked to the history of our lands and we were among the first wineries to open their doors to visitors, accompanying them in the discovery and knowledge of the world of wine and beyond. This is why today we look with even more enthusiasm to new horizons to continue to allow culture and its wonders to inspire and enrich the world.”
In a global context increasingly sensitive to cultural value and social responsibility, patronage is a strategic choice for Villa Sandi aimed at strengthening its identity and building a deep bond with its consumers.
Through the Guggenheim Intrapresæ project the company joins a select group of companies that share a love for culture, helping to enhance one of the most iconic museums in the world and supporting the dissemination of artistic knowledge for present and future generations. Furthermore, it gives its employees the opportunity to have free access to the museum and dedicated initiatives, such as guided tours, workshops for children and study days.
Villa Sandi
Palladian school building dating back to 1622 at the foot of the Treviso hills, Villa Sandi it is a happy example of the link between art and agriculture that characterized the Venetian landscape of past centuries, a symbol of the link between the splendor of Venice and the inland countryside.
Below the villa, centuries-old and evocative underground cellars extend for about a kilometer and a half which, due to their natural characteristic of maintaining constant temperature and humidity, create an ideal environment for the maturation and aging of wines.
The entrance is indicated by an elegant avenue, accompanied by statues of the famous Venetian sculptor Orazio Marinali, whose works also decorate the tympanum and the garden behind. An imposing pronaos, supported by four Ionic columns, adorns the main body of the building, on the sides of which there are two porticoed barchesse and a small church.
The preciousness of the rooms, in the delicate combination of pastel colours, stuccoes and bas-reliefs, where original Murano chandeliers shine, and where Napoleon Bonaparte, Antonio Canova, the painter Schiavoni, the writers Caccianiga and Corso stayed, testifies to the memories of a past Venetian, glorious and aristocratic.
In addition to hosting a cultural and emotional journey and thus telling the historical link between art, architecture and agriculture of the Venetian land, Villa Sandi hosts courses and meetings of a technical, scientific and cultural nature, preserving and revisiting the tradition of the Venetian villas, in the past home to cultural banquets and cenacles.
Villa Sandi is in the Top 100 of the World’s Best Vineyards, a ranking that rewards the most beautiful wineries that people should visit at least once in their lifetime.
