What will happen to theUkraine? The question has come back into fashion in the last few hours, after the victory of Donald Trump in the American presidential elections. As if the tycoon had never spoken about the dossier, as if only the Democrats were interested in the fate of Kiev. During the election campaign, the 47th president of the United States reiterated on several occasions that he would put an end to the ongoing wars and the first signal came yesterday directly from Moscow with the words of Vladimir Putin.
The Russian president was the only major international leader who did not congratulate Trump, with all due respect to those who speak of backroom deals and similar fantasies. Well, Putin explained during a meeting of the Vardai club that the Tycoon’s words on the war in Ukraine “are worthy of attention”. An opening that is not even veiled, especially if we consider another rumor reported by the Russian agency Ria Novosti, namely that the Kremlin leader contacted his American colleague by telephone to congratulate him on the success over Kamala Harris.
“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate him on his election as president of the United States,” Putin said during his speech. Trump, according to the Russian president, showed himself to be very courageous after the attack, but not only that. When asked if he is available to dialogue with Trump, the Russian leader replied: “I’m ready”. As for politics, there is a feeling that “he was persecuted” during the first period of his presidency, and what will happen next is unknown.
But that’s not all. Focusing on Ukraine, Putin was keen to point out that the recognition of borders on Russia’s part will only be possible after this country has chosen neutrality. Moscow, continued the Tsar, has always recognized the borders of the post-Soviet republic in the framework of the agreements following the collapse of the USSR, taking into account the fact that Ukraine maintained the status of neutrality, but then wanted to join NATO: . “I would like to draw your attention to the fact that Ukraine’s declaration of independence – and Russia supported it – states that Ukraine is a neutral state. On this basis we recognized the borders”, reports Agi.
Zelensky in the last few hours it has made itself heard again, perhaps precisely because of Putin’s statements. Guest of the fifth summit of the European Political Community, the Ukrainian president explained: “Speaking of the quick and quick end to the war, currently, I believe that President Trump really wants a quick decision. It doesn’t mean it’s going to happen this way.” “We are at war against the Russians. And it’s a fact, and it’s the most complicated enemy of this century. I’m talking about people who want to divide Ukraine into several parts, and this is a challenge” added Zelensky, underlining that it will be necessary “to be prepared for any decision we would like for a just end to the war”: “And I am convinced that a rapid war, it will be a loss, a defeat.”
Perhaps it will take Trump more than 24 hours to find the right balance between Moscow and Kiev, but he is certainly starting from an advantageous position compared to Harris: he has not cut ties with the Kremlin unlike what Joe Biden did. And this could be useful in the negotiation phase, with all due respect to the louts who cry out about the risks to democracy…
