WhatsApp, the news inspired by Instagram: here's what changes

We are in a period particularly full of news regarding WhatsAppand further confirmation comes from a preview released online by experts WaBetaInfo: the developers of the famous Meta instant messaging app are in fact about to make a series of updates available to everyone that will specifically enrich the users’ statuses.

Also included within this package is an element that very closely resembles a feature borrowed from Instagrama famous social network also owned by Meta: these are the “It’s your turn” stikers, which will help expand the possibilities available to WhatsApp users to update their public status together with surveys. After the automatic formatting, the translation of texts into their own language in real time and the chat lists, users are preparing to welcome the new features that will make the status update more lively by stimulating the participation of their contacts.

As regards i pollsthe main turning point is precisely the one that will lead them to enter the personal statuses of the profiles created on the famous instant messaging app. From a practical point of view there are no differences with those that can already be published within group chats: the user can therefore propose a survey to the users present in the address book, who have the possibility to choose between the various options proposed at the time of creation by the creator of the question. In this regard, the sticker relating to “Surveys” has already appeared in the iOS upgrades of last September, even if the functionality has not yet been activated.

The function “It’s Your Turn”originally “Add Yours”, was instead introduced for the first time on Instagram in 2021 with the aim of allowing users to propose public threads within Stories. They work like a sort of “Chain Letter”, whereby the creator proposes a specific theme and then passes the ball to the other followers: generally these are photos of animals, food, books or holidays.

Now, more than three years after its introduction, Meta has decided to extend this possibility to WhatsApp users too, with a difference that will be significant.

As the instant messaging app has the tightest privacy net, all “It’s Your Turn” interactions will remain within the group of people with whom you explicitly chose to share your personal status, and will be further protected by encryption end-to-end.
