Research
It was on this occasion that a new product was presented Trend Radara survey developed by Samsung together with Human Highway, the market research institute specialized in the analysis of changes in human relationships produced by technology and digital, which photographed the relationship of Italians with new digital trends.
The results
From the data that emerged, Italians seem to care about taking care of themselves, so much so that 64% of the sample, despite their pressing daily commitments, try to take care of their daily well-being as much as possible. For 27%, this is a real priority. Millennials and Gen Z (both 30%) do so more often, putting their health first.
The importance of technology
Technology has entered this field forcefully with wearable tools that are highly appreciated as support, even in 70% of cases, for one’s physical wellbeing and in 64% as support for mental wellbeing. Men are the ones who take care of this aspect, with a gap of 10 points compared to women.
The importance of using technology between physical and mental well-being is generationally very clear. While the first is something that is perceived as important by everyone, the second sees the clear interest of the youngest with Millennials, who in 68% of cases find it important for mental well-being and in 70% of cases for physical well-being, while for Gen Z in 65% of cases for mental well-being and in 72% physical well-being.
How it is used
Going into specifics on how technology can help achieve well-being, several scenarios emerge. As far as thephysical activitytechnology is fundamental as it allows you to combine listening to music (34%), especially for Gen Z (42%), followed by activity monitoring through wearables (34%), especially important for Millennials (39%).
Also important for 32% is the ability to track their progress and goals. In 28% of cases, the purpose is to monitor their heart rate and the device that encourages movement, chosen mostly by men to lead the survey with 30% against 23% of women.
The psychological sphere
Technology is also important as a support in the psychological and emotional sphere, as a facilitator in social relationships and in living one’s passions. In this area, Gen Z declares to be the most “technological”. For both, in any case, devices play a key role in staying in touch with friends and loved ones (39%), with a few points of difference, Boomer (47%) and Gen Z (45%).
Tech devices are also very useful for good mood through music in 37% of cases, but also for suggesting films and series that best suit one’s tastes (30%). In this case too, men have higher percentages than women, especially when it comes to video games and online games. Gaming as an element of relaxation is chosen in 33% of cases by Gen Z, while the percentage decreases as age increases.
Fundamentals for Relaxation
Technology also plays a fundamental role in relieving tension, promoting sleep and helping to meditate. Searching for background music to facilitate relaxation and tracking sleep via smartwatch are the activities in which technology plays a fundamental role for 26% of those interviewed. It is especially men (28%) and, from a generational point of view, Gen Z (28.5%) who track their sleep via smartwatch or configure the right hours of sleep by customizing the time (26%) on their device.
Usefulness in nutrition
Wellbeing also means eating in the healthiest way and technology is also essential in this field. Being able to count on appliances that optimize the time needed to prepare recipes and that promote practicality are considered a winning element by 38% of the sample, while 32% appreciate being able to have useful information for a more conscious diet and 27% use healthier cooking methods thanks to new-generation appliances.
Here too, it is men who use it, 39% versus 29% of women, they use devices to find data and suggestions that guide them towards healthier food choices. In any case, the use of the latest generation appliances that can simplify life are unanimously appreciated. 40% of Millennials confirm that they use them, followed by Gen Z and almost equally Gen X (37%) and finally Boomers (36%).
The most used functions in household appliances
As far as household appliances are concerned, the most appreciated and used functions are those that help to have a more conscious diet, which is mostly used by Boomers (39%), followed by Gen Z (34%), Generation X (32%) and Millennials (29%); healthy cooking methods for 34% of Boomers, 28% of Generation X, 25% of Gen Z and 24% of Millennials; optimal food preservation (33% Gen Z, 31% Boomers, 23% Generation X, 26% Millennials); and creation of personalized meal plans for 25% of Millennials, 16% of Gen Z and Gen X and 14% of Boomers.
Cleanliness and order
Cleaning and keeping your home tidy is also essential. 52% of those interviewed said it was important to have energy-efficient appliances, a figure that increases with age and reaches 62% among Boomers. Next in line was the importance of having functional and intuitive appliances (44%) and devices that can be activated remotely (35%), an aspect that was slightly more important for Millennials (37%) than for Gen Z (35%).
The most used devices
The king of devices used for well-being and health is for 68% the smartphone which is common to all generations, followed at a great distance by PC/Computer (38%) and from smartwatch (23%). The survey also disproves the cliché of men watching TV.
In reality, it is women who do so (22% vs 18%), who perceive it as a useful device for achieving daily well-being. As for household appliances, the most used is the washing machine with 48%, follows the fpenalty (38%) and the dishwasher (28%).
