After a few years of constant use, all great home appliancesfrom washing machines to washer-dryers, through dishwashers, refrigerators and freezers, tumble dryers, ovens and hobs, are starting to wear out and present the first problems. Replacing them therefore becomes necessary, better yet without waiting for a fault to make a hasty purchase essential. The advice is to plan your shopping in advance, whether you opt for online, including on Amazon, or whether you turn to specialized shops and large chains, which now also sell on the web: from Trony to Euronics, from MediaWorld to Expert, from Sinergy to Unieuro.
At present, it is no longer possible to access the Appliance bonuses: the window for submitting requests, in fact, closed on 31 December 2025. In 2026, however, the Furniture bonuseswhich also includes the purchase of some large household appliances intended to furnish a property undergoing renovation. But household appliances, in Italian homes, represent more than an expense item or a possible incentive. Just look at the kitchen, the protagonist of one of the most famous scenes of our cinema: that of “Perfect Strangers” (2016), the film by Paolo Genovese which tells of a dinner with friends set within the home.
When to buy washing machines and dryers
Long gone are the days of washerwomen, like those portrayed in 1884 by the Livorno painter Angiolo Tommasi in “The washerwomen on the Ema”, when doing laundry meant spending hours in front of the tub, “rubbing”, rinsing and manual labor. Today, all you have to do is press a button to start the washing machine, washer-dryer or tumble dryer, appliances that have now become indispensable. But when is the best time to buy them? Even for these devices, in fact, there are periods of the year that are more convenient than others, often linked to seasonality, promotions and model renewals.
For washing machines and washer dryers it is best to monitor between the end of August and the beginning of September, when the new ranges arrive and retailers can apply discounts on previous models. According to Trovaprezzi, which in its monitoring has photographed a solid Italian e-commerce market also in 2025, an 8 kg washing machine, in energy class A, with 1,400 rpm and an inverter motor, has a price that fluctuates between 300 and 500 euros. For a good washer dryer, however, the cost can be between 500 and 800 euros, even if promotions allow you to find some models below this threshold.
Tumble dryer chapter: here the price can start from 300-400 euros for an economical 7-8 kg model and reach 400-600 euros for an 8-9 kg appliance with heat pump. For the medium-high range, the expense is between 600 and 900 euros, while for a premium product it can exceed 1,000 euros. In this case the seasonality is even more evident: the end of summer and autumn, with the Black Friday to put it bluntly, they appear to be interesting times to buy a tumble dryer. “Black Friday” can be a good time to buy both top-of-the-range models and older products: the latter can benefit from deeper discounts when retailers aim to reduce stocks in view of the renewal of the assortment.
The right time for the refrigerator
Price remains a decisive factor in purchasing choices, especially online. According to the report 2026 of Idealo, an international portal specialized in price comparisons, in 2025 the value of Italian e-commerce exceeded 62 billion euros, with over 35 million citizens active in Internet purchases. And it is precisely the information collected online that increasingly guides decisions: eight out of ten Italians do their research online before purchasing and 98 percent consider promotions a decisive element in the final choice. It is therefore not surprising that technological products and items with high frequency of use are among the most searched categories. Among these there are also refrigerators and washing machines, which represent 12.5 percent and 7 percent of web searches respectively.
As far as refrigerators are concerned, the price of a good combined model is around 600-800 euros. According to Altroconsumo, however, combined refrigerators cost on average just over 600 euros, while for models with “No Frost” technology, which allow to regularly defrost the evaporator inside the freezer, the average expense is around 700 euros. For a refrigerator without a freezer, however, the price can drop significantly, depending on the model and features. As for the purchase period, a good window to look for offers is between spring and early summer: according to Idealo’s analysis, June is in fact the cheapest month to buy a refrigerator.
The best time for dishwasher, oven and hob
For dishwashers, however, the period to keep an eye on is between July and September: in the summer months you can find interesting offers both on recently released models and on those about to be replaced by new versions. September, in particular, turns out to be the cheapest month, with an average price of 310 euros, compared to 358 euros in December. This was revealed by an analysis of Klarnaa fintech specialized in financial services, which monitored the trend of online prices in Italy over 24 months, from April 2024 to March 2026. Thus Karoline Bliemegger, financial expert at Klarna: “This analysis confirms that, in many categories, the lowest prices arrive in less predictable periods, far from Black Friday”.
Staying in the kitchen, the most favorable time to purchase an oven and hob may be between January and February, when retailers tend to renew the assortment and can offer discounts on the previous year’s models. As for the budget, to purchase both good quality appliances you can expect to spend 500-800 euros. Those looking for a cheaper, but still reliable, solution can focus on a range of 300-500 euros, while for the models of the most famous brands it is more realistic to consider a budget between 700 and 1,000 euros.
Because durability matters more than price
In the song “The song of the washing machine” (2022), performed by Roberta Giallo, the artist from the Marche elevates this appliance to a sort of mythological figure, “eternally dancing and removed from time”. The lyrics of the song say that “the washing machine sings and is never afraid”. Beyond its practical function and the imagery it can evoke, however, there is also the relationship with the brand and the trust that people place in the product and, more generally, in household appliances. This is what emerges from a survey carried out by Ipsos Doxa, according to which, when choosing a household appliance, duration takes on ever greater importance for Italians.
In fact, for 97 percent of those interviewed, duration is an important factor and for 58 percent it represents the first criterion in the purchase choice, with a peak of 64 percent among 18-34 year olds. In particular, the need to be able to count on long-lasting products concerns household appliances perceived as indispensable over time: the refrigerator (81 percent) and the washing machine (72 percent). Those over 55 pay even greater attention to the durability of the washing machine (79 percent), while between 18 and 34 years old, the oven occupies first place among the appliances for which longevity is considered essential (49 percent).
