Why it is better to update iPhones with iOS 17.4.1

After releasing iOS 17.4 on March 6, Apple released the update iOS 17.4.1 which does not introduce any significant new features but simply fixes some bugs on iPhones.

At the same time, updates were made available for other devices Apple including iPadOS 17.4.1 (for iPad) and VisionOS 1.1.1 (for Vision Pro).

As is its wont to do, Apple doesn’t immediately say which ones security flaws are corrected by updates, this is to avoid encouraging the work of hackers before all users have downloaded and installed the updates.

Why install iOS 17.4.1 now

The first bug that is fixed by the update is overkill battery consumption of iPhones complained by several users who have installed iOS 17.4.

Additionally, an error related to scanning has been fixed QR codes which did not allow correct acquisition via the Camera app, a problem encountered in both iPhones and iPads.

Next up, the update covers some shortcomings in safety and this in itself should be an incentive for don’t delay in the installation, as Apple itself underlines, an unmistakable signal of the urgent need to increase the security of the devices.

How to update iPhones

The package weighs approximately 400 MB and it is therefore advisable to proceed with the installation using the coverage of one WIFI network and having the battery charged at least 50%.

To download and install the update, simply open the Settings / General / Software Update menu. The iPhone will then proceed autonomous way to update and reboot before being usable again.

The update can be installed on all devices running iOS 17.4, i.e. starting from iPhone (released in 2018) and following, obviously up to the most recent iPhone 15.

The frequency of updates

The fact that Apple releases updates with a certain frequency should not be scary. On the contrary, it is a positive aspect.

The devices – regardless of the brand – need continuous corrections that improve the user experience and close the doors to flaws that, as a rule, are called 0-daysmeaning that the manufacturer or developer is not aware of it and will fix it as soon as it becomes known.

In the case of iOS 17.4.1, the update lasts a handful of minutes (approximately 10) and, as usual, it can also be planned during the night hours, by clicking on “Install later” when – after having downloaded the update – the iPhone notifies the user of the need to confirm the installation.
