Apple continues with its strategy of gradually releasing the features of iOS 18, a roadmap which, according to the Cupertino giant’s plans, should end with version 18.4, expected for spring next year. On the one hand, the busier calendar satisfies users, who are no longer forced to wait for new features until June, the month in which the company, on the occasion of WWDC, previewed the features and then officially distributed them with the release on new iPhone market. On the other hand, according to some rumors, this leads to a worrying slowdown in the development of iOS 19.
Timings aside, with the distribution of iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2 And macOS Sequoia 15.2Apple has introduced a series of innovations related to artificial intelligence, among which the most important are undoubtedly Image Playground, Genmoji and integration with ChatGPT.
Thanks to Image Playground it is possible to create images taking inspiration from themes, accessories and costumes: the user can also start from a text prompt, inserting descriptions, or create portraits of friends or relatives taking them from shots saved in the Photos library. Obviously these will not be realistic photos, given that the function aims to make them more particular, transforming them into an artistic or cartoon style. Also available as a standalone app, Image Playground can be activated in Messages or in applications like Freeform or Keynote.
With Genmoji the user will have the possibility to create personalized emojis. Simply enter a description in the emoji keyboard to access several options to choose from. Also in this case it will be possible to personalize the results by drawing inspiration from photos saved in the device, to be enriched if necessary with the addition of accessories such as glasses or hats. The generated emoji can be added to messages or shared as stickers or reactions.
The note has been inserted in the notes app Wand Picturesa tool that allows you to produce images using the written or visual context already present in the note. Simply circle a sketched image to make it more detailed, or a typed or written text to have the artificial intelligence create a drawing relevant to the content.
The most awaited of all, however, is certainly the integration of ChatGPTaccessible from Siri and Writing Tools in iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
Thanks to the Write function, the user will be able to produce content with AI for any topic on which they are writing from the Writing Tools, or exploit the generative capabilities of ChatGPT to create images to associate with the written text. The user will decide whether to activate this function and determine the sharing of information.
