Zelensky’s openness has not found any support in Russia. Indeed, on the part of the minister Sergei Lavrov a total closure has arrived. For the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, there will be no negotiations based on Zelensky’s peace proposal, defined as “a utopian and illusory formula that will never come true”: “Everyone has already realized this, even if the West is still trying to mention it as an ultimatum through inertia”. Lavrov then stressed that Russia has no intention of giving up, on the contrary: “The current position of Western countries on Ukraine is to ignore the Russian position and expect Russia’s capitulation, but this will not happen. All the objectives of the special military operation will be achieved, there is no doubt”.
Another dossier to monitor is the one concerning the China. A few days ago, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba visited Guangzhou and reiterated Kiev’s expectation of Beijing’s mediation to end the war. “There is a clear signal, China supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. What Xi Jinping told me was also confirmed: China will not supply weapons to Russia,” Kiev emphasized. Kuleba discussed with his colleague Wang Yi the possible paths to end the war and China’s possible role in achieving sustainable peace. China prefers to refer to the war in Ukraine as a “crisis,” the Chinese ministry said, while Wang added that Beijing “has always been firmly committed to promoting a political solution” to the conflict in Ukraine: “Russia and Ukraine – Euromaidan reports – have signaled their willingness to negotiate, at various levels. Although the conditions and time are not yet ripe, we support all efforts that contribute to peace and are ready to continue playing a constructive role.” Updates will follow.
